BUTTONS! Revolution Era, & 1812

Dug a few nice ones today,
research nailed two,
A Brass flat one piece civilian, Revolutionary War era : http://metaldetectingworld.com/05_photo_gallery/05_us_rw_but/pages/Flat%201-piece%20Civilian%20Button%2C%20American%20Rev%20War%20Period%20(2).htm
And a pewter Napoleonic 'US Regimental Infantry, Script I, Star in Oval', repro on this page: http://www.militaryheritage.com/button4.htm
the last two pictured are yet to be identified..
the last two pix show a back mark, GIT?? near top with two crosses in lower area.
I don't know which I enjoy more, finding the artifacts, or researching & finding a positive ID, I love them both!
Best to All.

Re: BUTTONS! Revolution Era, & 1812

the 1812 button is a nice one! Congrats!

As for the backmark on the others, it's probably "gilt" with a word in front of it like "standard" , "treble", etc. Pretty common to see on buttons of the period. Not a makers mark so to speak, but more a mark of quality.

Re: BUTTONS! Revolution Era, & 1812

Nice digs Herbie. Always nice to get a military button for the display case.

Re: BUTTONS! Revolution Era, & 1812

That 1812 is a keeper.

For a second I thought you had found an exact match for your first one.... and I was thinking I could Google! I think it's pretty hard to make a match for those early designed buttons unless it's from hunting the same site.

Re: BUTTONS! Revolution Era, & 1812

very cool! nice buttons man

Re: BUTTONS! Revolution Era, & 1812

WTG on your early buttons...lots more goodies waiting...

Re: BUTTONS! Revolution Era, & 1812

Thanks to all for your replies,
Though not an exact match to the linked " Civilian Revolutionary Button"
The design similarity leads me to believe mine is of that era,
I had earlier posted another of the pewter script buttons, am adding it to this post, bottom photo, thinking it may be Regiment of Artillerists, or Regiment De Meuron.
though its poor condition precludes definitive ID. Anyone have experience cleaning pewter? Good Day & Great Digs, Herbie.

Re: BUTTONS! Revolution Era, & 1812

the rose button looks late 18th - early 19th C

Re: BUTTONS! Revolution Era, & 1812

Thanks Crusader!
My guess was the same, I had just finished describing it as late 18th
in an email to a friend just before I read this reply.
Confirmation through such a knowledgeable source is a great help.
Good Day & Great Digs, As You Usually have!! Herbie.
