There is nothing wrong with buying artifacts as long as they are legal and authentic. I prefer to find them but I think if there was a little more dough in my wallet I wouldnt buying some pieces that I wouldnt be able to find in my neck of the woods. On the other hand I dont like seeing stuff from my sites on Ebay but thats just me being me. Just my opinion

what is the fun in that... the fun is finding and sharing your finds with friends...the value of my artifacts is that I found them... I suppose at garage sale prices I would have to call that a find... finding real silver in your change is a find...thats my take on it..

It depends on what you enjoy. i found several thousand while living in missouri, but i have also bought some, my colection is insured for a fair amount. I have a water bottle made from the bladder of a bear, covered in clay, wrapped with leather straps and has a cap made from buffalo horn, has bird whistle made from bone, and was found with a axe and several other artifacts in a cave in N.M authenticated by Univ of N.M at over 400 years old in 1993.

I bought entire collection for $ 750 17 yeats ago. Last offer I had on the bottle alone was $5000.00, and that was 5 years ago, turned down $ 1000 offer on the axe, it has an iron bit and still on the handle and leather wrist strap.

Now figure out how they got iron for the head in the 1500's and you will know why it is valuable to me and other collectors. Not bad for a $750 investment.

I wouldn't ever add to my collection with relics I didn't find myself, it just seems wrong to me . But you may not feel the same way and buying a complete collection from a collector you know or know collected and found all their points themeselves could be a good investment for someone. And you can always keep it seperated from your personal finds.

i feel the same way just kinda wrong about it ,i would always keep it separate from personal finds and they wouldn't mean as much, but on the other hand, if authentic , still history that i can learn from and admire

also there is a full grooved axe and its the only piece i dont have a problem paying for, personalty i just want one in my collection, but deff hope to find my own

I once traded three arrowheads for a spear point. The old guy I traded with couldn't get out anymore and needed three points to fill out a frame. We both saw each other make finds and knew they were authentic. I feel good about that trade. He is dead now and we spent many hours discussing our theories about our artifacts. My memories of those times are priceless and the spear point always takes me back....

nothing wrong with buying relics, different strokes for different folks rite?buyers beware though..... there alot of fakes in circulation.reproductions have been being made for over a hundred years.for me its all about the hunt, and buying em would seem like cheating.im proud of my personally found collection and i know where every piece was found(within 20 feet)lol, and I know they are the real deal.good thread nomad

I like the war club in the corner with rawhide handle?

Yes, it came out of a cave in New Mexico which is why it survived intact, it is a very dry area, it was found with the water bottle, a bowl and some points..... The leather is what was used to date it..... Univ New Mexico dated it over 400 years old......They said the iron must have come from the Spanish Conquistadors who explored up into New Mexico in the Mid 1550s as that was the only way they could have got the iron that far back....

Maybe a derelict ghost Junk from China washed up on a Pacific beach much like the present Japanese tsunami trash and a piece of iron made it there that way.

It would still have to travel over a thousand miles to get to where it was found......Odds are a whole lot better it came up from Mexico with the Spanish....

Probably Coronado.
