Here's a link that will interest Dutch hunters who explore around Coffee Flat Mountain. More cabins in other places will follow later.

Tony Ranch --
The trailhead to Haunted Canyon is a two-hour drive east from Phoenix. The drive requires navigating through public access and forest service roads (primarily FR 287) through the Pinto Valley Mine near Miami.

The trailhead is poorly marked. Once you leave the mine area, turn left before the first narrow bridge and you'll be there. If you get to forest road 287A, you've gone too far.

The hike to Tony Ranch is about 11 miles roundtrip from the lower trailhead and is moderately difficult with some route finding skills required. The offshoot trail for the cabin is easy to miss unless you are using an app to track your location. Inexperienced hikers should not attempt this hike. There are numerous creek crossings, which are easy to cross without getting wet as long as there has not been recent rain.

AW Tacke Cabin.webp

Originally built by A.W. Tacke, the last occupant of this cabin was Bob Ward. The cabin was demolished long ago.

Above is a stone structure that overlooked First Water. The photo was taken by Tom Kollenborn. Mrs. Kollenborn is seen in the photo.

Well, if you consider Four Peaks as part of the Superstations, here is a picture of a trapper's cabin. The only thing left of the cabin is the chimney. There is also a stone corral next to the cabin. There is also a spring that runs year-round. It's a cool place to hike to but, not for the weary. Hope you enjoy the photos.

If you have read part two of The Lost Dutchman mine by T.E. Glover, it talks about this place. This is the cabin were Dick Holmes and his son, Brownie stop during a trip looking for the mine. A trapper follows them from the Verde river, Cottonwood canyon, Cane Springs, and then to this cabin. I can't remember if it was from Cane Springs or this cabin, they leave and visit skull cave. Anyway, good story and a very cool place. I will place a picture of a nearby cave and stone that looks like a face in the next post.

Here are some pictures of a nearby cave and stone that looks like it could have a face on it. I don't think this is the one referred to in the Dutchman Clues.

Thanks,
EDN

Bill Hibdon hade 3 cabins and several base camps out there in his days. All taken down by the forest service now
That "cabin" is the Caverna con Casa on the maps and it's north of the mine. If you are near Chuck crawfords Cheryl Ann mine and at the head waters of la barge springs you will find bill hibdons base camp at the head waters on the north side of the spring. Just south of that I packed a ladder from the QCU ranch out there and tied it up in a crevace out there and when I climbed to the top of it there were 2 pitons and a wooden handled screwdriver pounded into the ground leading into a hole up there. That was in the late 90's. Leaving there I also came across a 3' thick vein of milk quartz. While camped at la barge springs one day I heard Chuck moving an aluminum ladder around banging it on the rocks we were that close to him. The first night we camped at the spring we tied a tin cup and a horse shoe together and strung the string across the trail leading to the camp, Chuck came calling that night and tripped the alarm. Both him and bob ward used to follow us from the QCU out to the spring thinking we were after his mine, we weren't. We were going up picacho butte
