Calcite Crystals

My son found these. He was in the right place at the right time as he got a shiny glint from the sun on a side hill. When he got there he noticed a crack and upon
looking inside seen these crystals. He went back, got a crow bars and 5 hours later came out with these. This area must have been under water thousands of years
ago as there was some tiny snails in the crystals ( we are 455 miles inland from the nearest ocean )... Used 23% hydrochloric acid to clean these crystals....

Were the tiny snails fossils? If so, I'd have left them in there. They wouldn't have to be marine, though -- there are plenty of fresh water snails.
 
I found a strata of calcite while metal detecting on Little Swan Island Honduras many years ago. Thanks for jogging good memories.

robertk .. the tiny snail fossils are still in that calcite piece in original condition, we wrapped it so it would not get damaged put it away and now cannot find it,
if we do I will post some pics....

Mackaydon ... that's a nice find while detecting and your welcome as some memories are to be cherished ...

Nice specimens. The snails sound interesting.
