From 1800 onwards the British Empire relied on its Colonies for man power to ensure the Empire had enough troops to expand.Colonials troops where always only allowed to fight in small number under British command. This ensured the British would have all the glory .Most colonials where not given commissions or allowed to ware war medals of the British Empire. After many years service they where give a small block of land to settle.Called settler-farmers the struggled to make a living from the farms.Often those who had the job of dividing the land titles for the families kepted the largest and best land for themselves and their own familes. This was on a huge scale. The area i have been hunting this week is a valley that is 44 miles wide and a regrowth forrest has grown back. The valley was known as Sunbury Sheep Run and was owned by one man.The poor farmers where only left the sides of hills and bad ground. Most of these families simply died from poor health and hunger while the rest grew wealth.between 1830- 1900 some of these farms where only had a couple of acreas and the rest made one big farm that where recorded greater in size than England its self.Often guarded by private regiments and the colonial troops.Colonial troops where often ex-cons who used their position for self gain.Thats right folks from those at the top to the commoner all where nothing but scum. The 1884 Royal Commission Into Police Corruption proves this. This is also why the Famous outlaw Ned Kelly is considered a hero.Colonial law hard and unfare. The troops often picked on the weak and those of a different race or religion.

Spent what time i had this week around on small settlers farm.Land on the side of these hills has little top soil and the native grey box trees live here.did find a a couple of bottles Cow check[tag] andf a small comm of the Glasgow Scotland Fair 1904.Sure theres not much treasure to be had here as most of the settlers had little or no use for money.

Looks like a beautiful area Tinpan. Thats a great bottle you found as well (cobalt glass?). As for the story - it sadly sounds like most governments today in one way or another...

tinpan, I can sympathise regarding the paucity of metallic, potential treasures, yet you do have some cool finds there

Who knows, that 1904 medal might have belonged to my Scottish GrandMa who, Bless her Soul , lived in Oz in the 1920's through to about 1950.
I enjoy your good photography too,
that last pic looks like it's newly regenerating after a fire?

The grey box trees are regrowth from land -clearing.These small regrowth are no reflection of the up too 400 year old grey box that where used deep quartz mine timber.Been no fires at this locationfor a very long time.thanks for your reply

Good to see that you're still alive and kicking ;D

A very nice bottle and token.

Unfortunately that was the way of the world then, and still is to some extent "the rich get richer-the poor get poorer). You can't judge past events using present day thinking, it's pointless. But then again "such is life" (last words of thief Ned Kelly).

HH Robert.

Looks like an awesome place to hunt! I bet you were excited when those coins and bottles came out of the ground!

To find ANYTHING in that environment looks
to be tough. Nice to find something, I'm sure.
Nice finds.
