I found this rock years ago and have enjoyed it on my desk ever since. Always a good conversation piece. What are your guys thoughts on it? One of my coworkers said he thought it was some sort of a vertebrae fossel or something. I was thinking maybe just layered earthen material.

You're correct, it's naturally eroded, with alternating harder and softer layers with the softer layers eroding more then the harder. You can see the layers are different in color and texture. And yes, it's a great conversation piece.
