Cameo or cameo button age and made of what ???????

Hi all i found this cameo thingy yesterday.The item is about the same size as the modern US army button and is discoloured and stained.Its not made of shell and does not have that milky look of paste stone. Not plastic or cavla [bakerlite] Any ideas and age please.

As nfar as I know for it to be a true "cameo" the background has to be a different color from the face. That's a bias relief. Does it have a pore structure when viewed under magnification? Ivory or bone? If it's from the late 19th to early 20th it could be gutta percha.

Age? 2500 BCE to 1997AD. Too little data.
