I have been back on campus swingin the CZ21 2 more times this week. Still gridding sections and digging all high and mid tones and cleaning up. The first time I found 87 coins with a face value of $4.05, 3 game piece tabs, a modern copper jacket bullet, an unusual button, a cheapy pendant, a junker wrist watch and of course the usual tabs, bits of construction aluminum and assorted junk.

The button is a mystery to me. It would have had a shank like a flat button from the look of the button back. It’s made of brass and the rim around the back looks very much like the back of a button I found about 5 years ago. That button was a fabric covered button with the fabric rotted away. This one is odd because it is concave and if you cover it with fabric it would have an empty space in the middle. I’m not sure of how old this one is. If anyone knows anything about this one or how old it is please feel free to speak up.

The tabs came from 2 different games at 2 different times. The two on the left were a game where you matched the left and right halves of the same denomination and you won the cash. The one on the fight was a monopoly game. If you got all the pieces of the monopoly you won the cash. The monopoly game is Pepsi. I found a can on line from another Pepsi monopoly game dated 1971, but that one was for the stay on tabs, not the earlier pull of tabs. So these are pre 1971. That’s all I have been able to find out so far. I remember the games, I just don’t remember when they took place and what drinks sponsored the games.

The second time I went back and spent another 6 hours swingin. I found 82 coins with a face value of $3.42, a cheapy earring, a basketball award, a ski pendant, what looks like a bag seal, a 1956 wheatie and the same assorted junky recyclables and trash as usual. I’m not sure about the bag seal. It has the right shape and size, but there are no markings on it so it might just be a chunk of lead.

The basketball medal is marked Sterling and is inscribed “1948 SECT. 14 RUNNER UP”. It may have been part of a regular style medal with a ribbon attached or just a pendant, but I’m not sure. I can’t find a picture of one like it anywhere I have tried. I don’t know much about basketball so I can’t tell if this was a regional high school award or college level. It would be great to be able to identify the team and figure out if it belonged to a staff member or a resident of the old farm. (It is not from the college team because the school didn’t open until 1961.)

The ski pendant/charm has SKI COLORADO on the front and REA STER with a large C in front and an O after the marks on the back. It also has a brass ring used to fasten it to the bracket or chain necklace.

So more fun and exercise with social distancing, a little gas money, a mystery button, and 2 cool silvers (l think the basketball award is a really special find). Thanks for looking, stay safe and may your coil lead you to good things.

Nice finds! Reminds me to get the CZ21 fired up as the FL beaches are still closed and maybe do some non beach areas.

I don’t know where you are in Florida, but my brother in law says in Cape Canaveral you can walk on the beach and fish, but not lounge or sun bath. So it seemS that as long as you are moving and keeping your social distance, a little sand “fishing” would be ok.

Thanks for the reply. Stay safe and keep swingin (on the beach or off).
