With apologies to my hard stone searchers and friends. I just need some direction here. This relic sat on my father in law's shelf for years and we have never figured out what the heck it is....any ideas?

I've always referred to it as a "prayer hat" though I certainly do not know that.

Thanks, and again sorry that it is not a spear point or clovis....but I hope you find it interesting.

I Don't know, but it looks old and authentic.

Please, don't apologize for that, I love looking at everything and what you have does look old, but I cant help with an ID.
BTW, I'll admit, points get the lions share around here and I find it refreshing to see any and all other artifacts, I really enjoy the pottery, tools, beads, copper, drilled goods...
Thanks,
BCI

it is very interesting for sure
thanks bradi

If those are turkey beards on it, they are huge!! Nice piece! That is all I can say about it, with any honesty!

looks old and Chinese'e to me.

Any idea on the hair source?

Can you elaborate on the Chinese relation to this piece? I'm pretty sure what you call hair is not hair, but turkey beards. I say that because in one pic, what appears to be a spur is seen. A large spur!! Here is what turkey spurs look like on a big old gobbler!

Looks American to me.

Basketry hat, perhaps. Several western nations used them.
