the characters look korean to me, but i havent matched them yet.
also, are you sure it was a medal, or could it be a challenge coin? i found a picture of a similar shaped challenge coin

sorry i posted another pictures. Includig the stars it is like 1.5 inchs. My grandfather was in WWII and use to work on the planes. Not sure if I got it
from him or not. Can't remember that far back.

i am not sure it was a medal. something differently broker off the top star were a ribbon might of been.
