Can anyone tell me what this is? Gold colored Medallion?

I bought a pallet of old items at an auction and found this stuffed deep inside some other items. It's gold in color and heavy. It has some numbers and some symbols on the back and what looks like a ship on the front. Any ideas? 20150521_160430.webp20150521_160441.webp20150521_160430.webp20150521_160441.webp

Maybe gold bullion from the bank? Wasn't there a time when currency could be backed in gold :D

Have you weighed it? Is it one ounce?

Not at the time that logo was in use.

I still think it's melted down gold cast into a bullion. But hard to tell from photo.

You could measure the volume (water displacement) and then weight it and do the math to determine if it's gold I bet.

The logo looked like this until the mid 1960's. US went off the gold standard in 1933.

I bet $1 it's not gold. But you can check.

marine midland bank paperweight -- the "numbers" might be marked on it for accounting purposes -- like a stock number -- or it might be gold plated sterling silver item --bankers like to have fancy high dollar ncik nack crap on their desk and valuible art work on their walls too commonly
