How old do you think it may be? Someone told me from glacier times and that's how it would have reached the IL River?

The rock in situ was probably formed billions of years ago. When it broke apart from the mountain and traveled to the place where you found it???

Kewl! Now my son's next question is, is it worth anything?

No it isn't worth anything unless you sell it on E-Bay as "Mystery rock- you decide" or "Devil rock" or "Satans Stripe" . You may get a few bucks at a rock show as it's origin is unknown. It really is a niffy, eye catching looking rock for which I would actually pick it up and carry it back to the car.

Hey marblehunter!

How big is the rock? If it is big enough, you could slice it in two and polish the faces. Then it could fetch more cash online, or look nicer on the shelf. If it is smaller, it could be tumble polished.

Anyway you look at it, it is a beatiful chunk of nature.

...........HH.......from a marble hunter too.

Can't tell what size it is, but if it was found in situ with the other relics, it'd make a great flour grinding rock. Seen any big rocks by the river with round holes?

That's my 2 wheats

It's the other lost Shankara stone from the village in the Indiana Jones movie.

It looks like it was used as a hammer stone. The band would have made it attractive and the granite would have made for a strong tool.
