Can I have $1 in Silver Please??

Just wondering if I take a One Dollar ($1.00) Silver Certificate to the bank and ask for a silver dollar do they have to give it to me? It says on the bill redeemable in silver to the bearer on demand.

Back in the late 1960's the Treasury announced that Silver Certificates would no longer be redeemable for silver. There was enough notice for those who had them to send them in and get silver in return. I was a teenager working at a grocery store. I used to pay the other cashiers $1.25 each for them, then would put together a batch and send them in.
