How is it possible for Canadian coins to sneak into my string rolls? I am on my 2nd box of dimes and have gotten 2 Canadian dimes from the 70s. Edge looked like silver but it was just a Canadian coin. Did these slip thru the sorter or is it a common occurrence and I'm making a big deal?

I pulled out 22 "silver edges" from 4 boxes of dimes today. After opening up the rolls, I ended up with 16 candadian dimes and 6 silver rosies. I can't tell you how bummed out I was. It's always gonna happen. I even find dimes from portugal in my rolls from time to time. Just ignore it, and keep on huntin'!

People probably mix them in with other american coins then they end up going back to a bank who probably ends up sending it to the distributer then they distribute. I could ask you americans here the same question, in early July I found a 1940 Mercury in one of my dime rolls here in Canada. :hello2: Now how did that get all the way up here. I was pumped although I still haven't found a silver roosevelt.

Point was pretty much you would think they sort them so that non US coins would get rejected. But then I guess it gets more complicated then the bank who put them into the distributor would be shorted and have to deal with exchanging them.

Sometimes I find about 50 canadians per box. It just goes with the territory. Out of those, I nab about 15-20 silvers per year, which I like as much as finding mercs.

all i have to say is that when i get a box of pennies...

about 2.50 worth is Canadian. (price I pay for my proximity to Canada) although i must say some of them are cool:)

It's very common up here in Maine to get Canadian cents, dimes and quarters in your change they just use them like American coinage which I think is wrong but I go with the flow. Hence when storekeepers turn in their coinage in rolls for deposits then there's bound to be plenty of Canadian in those rolls.

I dont mind getting canadian copper cents i have a small bucket and once it gets full they go to the scrapyard.

Not trying to reopen the old "you can't legally melt US cents" debate, since they're Canadian, but how much do you get per pound?

I'm in Indiana, and the Canadian dimes seem to pour out of dime rolls here.

I worked $250 in CWR today, and I think I got 24 Canadians.

I never find Canadian in Brinks clear rolls. I theorize that the machines that Brinks uses in our area kicks out both silver and Canadian, and anything else, like British 5 pence. In $6500+ of Brinks clear wraps, I have yet to find the first silver dime.

I was surprised, however, that a box of String rolls yesterday produced no Canadian or silver.

Hey, I'm just east of you in Ohio. I thought the same things too, that Brink's was culling or kicking out silver cuz I was on a 22 dime box skunk streak! Then I got 4 boxes today and each one had about 4 silver Rosie's in them. I personally prefer boxes of clear wrapped dimes because they are SO easy to look through and most people don't mind taking dimes in because they are pretty light and alot of people use them.

The coin machine I use at my CU rejects all Canadian coins.... :icon_scratch:

I do not understand how they are getting into MWR unless banks are taking them as real dimes at the teller window. :dontknow:
