Went out with a buddy to a cellar that I found last night. I played around there as a kid and never noticed it! Nabbed a few terribly corroded coppers, one 1812 half penny, some buttons and a first for me; a cannonball! This thing is heavy! I havent had the chance to weigh it, but I'd say at least 8lbs. The site is a late 1700s-1820s homesite in the middle of the woods. Cant wait for a return trip!

Make sure to let us know what you find out. Cool find!

Will do! Does anyone have any suggestions on the best way to preserve it?

Nice finds, would've liked to have seen the other coins you found as well.
I would think electrolysis would be the best way to preserve your cannonball find.

Looks like you're going to get wet thanks to Dorian this weekend.
Have fun at the game, Fenway is a beautiful ballpark.

What nobody talks about is that every home had it's own cannon back in the day. Just kidding. That is a super awesome find and one I definitely want to make some day!

There's a video out there of Aquachigger on preserving cannon balls. He does something like boils it in wax or something. When I find one I'm going to look that video up. Have a great time in Boston! I live here and this guy at my work gave me tickets to the game on Sunday. I won't be there because it's past my bedtime... gave them away.

Thanks! I cant wait to get back home so I can clean it and weight it! I'll keep you posted.

Looks like it's an 1812 6lb British cannonball. Got it cleaned, waxed and in a case. Maybe a bit too much wax, but I can fix that later on.

Awesome job! I would really need to do the same for mines. Where did you get that case for it?

I bought it at Michael's craft store. They sell single and triple baseball displays

Nice work on the restore!
