This is an amazing topic that wooden dugouts could have survived so long submerged in water. When I was a kid I had seen submerged Sucker gigging boats in Johns river and wondered why people had abandoned their boats. My Dad explained that's how they stored them until the Suckers run the next year and they would not rot in the water.
