Hmmm...is this perhaps the Guadalupe river in Texas, or is there a Guadalupe river down in Mexico?
Shoot, even today some people still consider Texas a part of Mexico...maybe this is where the story takes place.
I live a stone's throw from the river here in Tejas.....might give me something to look for.
