Looks like one that has been made into something else, maybe a scraper if it has a sharper edge on the sides...d2

Yep, a buttplate and it appears that someone scratched their initials into it. The second letter looks like a "B". First possibly a "T" ?

Any Ideas on the make and model, or year?

I've heard tales that the American Indian has been known to remove butt plates to be used as hide scrapers.

That's a pretty cool one, the style of the engraving makes me think maybe early 1800's ish. Id-ing any more than that is going to be nearly impossible though
