A white cascade of phantasmagoria white flakes drifted lazily downward towards the plowed field. it also left a light dusting on the Bluenoser who was wrapped up in hunter orange so that the hunters in the wooded area surrounding the field would not mistake him for what his beloved wife called him "dear!" Of course he could have been taken for a pilon as his movements were slow and measured.
The cold wind ripped through him even though he wrapped in multiple layers. After a short time his legs became numb which was a blessing. Two weeks till the next knee replacement dominated his thoughts. The reassuring hum of Zen Guru in his ears was soothing and soon the Bluenose was in the "zone." Targets were few and far between. He did not care and was purred on recalling his first visit to the new permission which produced a 1780 silver Spanish. A faint familiar sound made it's way through the headphones causing the Bluenoser to stop and dig with his spade which by the way was also orange. He was taking no chance recalling what a fellow coworker had said to him (thousands of guys with guns and no mass shootings) referring possibly to his neighbours to the south. Putting that thought out of his mind he carefully removed the spade full...it was there but where? After separating the dirt she showed her most lovely profile......"Vickie!" He was pleased and examined the small 5 cent piece that early fishermen referred to as a fish scale due to it's size matching that of a herring fish scale. 1894 was a good year. (photo of silver shown after some cleaning) Hole covered moved about 10feet and another sweet sound. The Bluenoser immediately dreamed of another Vickie but was somewhat disappointed by the appearance of a small button. Undaunted he plowed on hitting another part of the field which was in his "drunken sailor " grid.

Time passed. He was unaware. Heading back to Nogo he faced the full force of the wind in his face which too had become somewhat frozen. As many a detectorist haver had a similar experience on the way back to his car a good signal erupted. Stumbling to get the spade into the ground a plug was removed as well as...another fish scale. No date here with Vickie again as this one had a male on it. "A good cleaning would get that one spiffy", the Bluenoser said to no one in particular. Once back inside Nogo Sojo the Bluenoser sat wearily and enjoyed the heat from the seat as well as the engine. Once warmed up the Bluenoser listed to some relaxing Black sabbath and Pink Floyd.
Stopping at a park that was well sheltered the Bluenoser dug a few coppers and a few dimes to round out the day.

Once home the Bluenoser sat in his recliner looking at some old year books of where he had taught. To his amazement was a photo of a former student who is well known within the Maritime Detecting community. THe Bluenoser's last thought before he dozed off to sleep was..... oh to be so young again!
