Got out for a quick cellar hole hunt...

Just a pull off the side of the road cellar..

Glad i scouted it as this site will require the small coil

There were bottles right on the ground and it was very trashy.. :-\

Stayed for about 15 minutes and pulled this little drum.. ;D

Not thinking anything i was not even going to post it.. :dontknow:

Then it hit me it may be Civil war related..Cellar was probably abandoned around 1880..

Put it in the what is it forum and Breezie was on top of it right away :icon_thumleft:
Its a rare Drummer's insignia or badge..

The first few months of Tnet i thought when you clicked report post..Then the finds banner link that was voting..

I did not realize you had to type in the word banner and hit report..

All those times i thought i voted banner for someone it did not... :-\

Glad i figured it out it does not give any instructions :laughing7:

Wow, sounds like we need a sticky note, or even a small change to the process of nominating for banner... I have only voted banner maybe 5 times but little did I know, I wasnt voting at all..... Crazy.

Amazing find by the way. I love it.

Chris.

:tongue3: If you just Klick report post, & Don't say why,
How do we know
you just don't want the post Read, deleted, Or Edited ?

If you just say Banner Here, How do we know your not Just
Being Nice ? :tongue3:

I'v seen Banner votes on Sarcastic Remarks :laughing7:
and Banner votes on already Bannered Finds. :icon_scratch:

Just saying when you click report post, you see in bold letters "Finds Banner"..

It would seem that most people would think clicking on these BOLD letters would think that they were voting banner..When actually those bold letters are just information on the banner..

If you did a survey i bet lots and lots of people are thinking they are voting banner this way :dontknow:

Just a thought :hello:

I know this is great :hello2:

I have been doing some research :read2:

I dont think these were made for the Civil War i believe they were passed down from generations of Drummers...

Before the War of 1812 they wore bearskin caps then switched to the Shako cap with these Insignia on them..

Hidden Realm's is clearly an early one by the Decor..
http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,282988.html
I believe the ones we are seeing are somewhere around 1820 and after..Im not positive but
from my research this is my conclusion so far :coffee2:

About halfway down this page is a better picture of my drum insignia. I provided it to this civil war fife and drum page years ago before anyone really knew what it was. The moderator of the website was sure it was civil war or pre civil war.

I just wanted to thank everyone who took the time to post a reply for me :occasion14:

Another thing i wanted to point out was i have scoured millions of images trying to find a real photo of
these drums on a uniform with no luck at all :dontknow:

Maybe they were that rare that all the war photos did not catch a glimpse of these..

"CIVIL WAR RELICS OF THE WESTERN CAMPAIGNS" by Charles S. Harris shows this item on page 209, although all they say is "Drummer's insignia made of stamped brass with two attachment hooks on reverse." Theirs was found at Dalton, GA.

Hey John
Congrats my man. Your smoking with the 1775 plate now a banner. Me being a Greenie not sure how to vote but if I figure it out it will get done. Killer relic and keep on swinging the coil my friend. There is no greater reward for ones hard research and hard work to then pull history out of the ground like this. Great find I know we all enjoy seeing.
