I've found these at a few different cellars, anybody know what it is? It strikes me as strange, found one near an old shipyard as well so I'm curious if it is a modern iron piece or a period piece.

can you give us some specifics on it, and a sort or two from different angles.

I can give you specifics but unfortunately I can't get pictures at the moment as they are both sitting on the edge of the cellars under a foot+ of snow, woops!

They were the same size about 18-20" long, with fanned out ends, there is a slight step-out lip along the length of each edge, and the underside on one had attachment points about 3 inches in from either end. I have a feeling they are more 1860 --> 1920 pieces but they were both sites with usage dating back to about 1700.
