Celts!!

Well,

Parts of celts!! My "BOX OF ROCKS" from the basement has a ton of broken and very crude celts in it. Here is a picture of some.

Can I ask? What is a celt used for? Is it a weapon? and what exactly is a bannerstone? Maybe I should get my dictionary but I thought I would ask the experts.

Very nice assortment. Do my eyes deceive, or do I see arrows scratched into several of them? Or is it what TN said? The plow?

You are seeing the plow scars on the pieces, but now when I look I see the arrows too. They are unfortunately only damage from the many years of plowing. I have never found a celt with any carvings on them. I wonder if there are any out there that have been found with tally marks or the sort? I have seen carvings on pendants and gorgets.

I am sure someone used a celt as a weapon a time or two,but it is a tool used for woodworking,like an axe.a bannerstone is believed to be used as a weight for the atlatl(spearthrower).the weight would counter balance the thrower and help give the thrower/and spear more velocity.
