I got a box of cents and dimes on Saturday. Went through the dimes and found nothing. And found 12 Common wheat's and 562 copper cents from the box of cents. I'm still waiting for my first Indian head after looking through 10 cent boxes now. I was just wondering how long it took some of you to find an Indian head cent and what's your average number of silver roosevelts you find per dime box.
Thanks

I found my first IH in box #7.... and I'm now on box #66 and have yet to find another. So, it's basically just random luck I think.

I average 1 Indian per $630 searched (13 total), 1 roosie per $162, although I'm missing some records

I'm not sure how many cent boxes I've searched but I still haven't found anything earlier than a 1917 wheat. And I don't keep exact figures on it but I'd say I' average about 1 keeper per dime box. I think I've searched about 10-12 dime boxes so far this year and I've found 9 Rosie's and 1 Merc.

Good luck & HH

I've now done 40 cent boxes w/o finding a single IH.

I've never found one either but when you consider that the "youngest IHC" is 104 years old, it's like finding a barber half (maybe a bit better odds due to circulation and #'s minted) but its a needle in a haystack. In ~ $500,000 worth of halves I've only found 3 barbers.

Hope you do find one soon though!

I've found a few in circulation.

First one was in about the 3rd or 4th box I ever searched. Then it was a while before my next one which I found when going through a relative's pocket change they gave to me to be cashed in. Then a few weeks later I managed to find 3 in a box. Then my most recent one was when I bought a bag off of the machine and got a few IHs along with $10 face of wheats, including a 1909 (no S, no VDB)

I finally have a bank that will sell me their bags...It's not a coinstar but an old school "cummins machine" I believe is what they call them. They called today so i'm excited to go get my first ones!

Keep in mind more times than not you WILL get shorted. Its part of the game of doing bags. Especially if you do halves, often bent nickels/pennies will slip through into the half bag, similarly some junk world coins worth less than 50 cents will be in there, things like Mexican 10 and 1 pesos, British (old style) 10p coins, car wash tokens, etc. But often the amount of silver in bags will cancel that out or you might come out ahead, sometimes dramatically so.

I'm just doing pennies and dimes as the bank does their own halves!

:'(

Just a guess but I found my first IH in a box about the tenth box. Handrolls and friends penny jars have yielded quite a few though. I don't search dime boxes so no idea on that.
