Central Ca find...anyone? Geo fact?

Does anyone have any idea if this is anything more than just a stone? Very round but not perfectly so. Found in a creek area near where I have found a hammer stone. Santa Cruz area. Thanks in advance!

It could be a Clay Marble, which were early settlers and not Indian, though they were traded to them.

I need to get a macro shot of the material to determine whether it's clay or stone then.

I tried to take a few pics with my phone thru a small 60x scope...it is definitely crystalline in structure.

It sure looks like something someone rolled between their fingers to me. ?

If you google image "old clay marbles" it's a dead match

It's not clay...it has crystalline structure when scoped

I should say it appears to be crystalline, ground quartz...the marble would explain the bits on the end though. Is there a scratch test or something? She rolls really well too!

It's just a natural rock. And clay marbles are pretty close to perfectly round, it is easy enough to make them that way, even many years ago.

Gunsil, what leads you to believe that it is natural? I spend a lot of time fishing, mushroom hunting and now I'm starting to artifact hunt and I've never seen such a round quartz stone before...especially in this area, where there is very little quartz. The aggregate material is a bit of a stumper but....?

I have a few round stones too...i do see them as natural, it just happens some times

I guess the question is: what is the clue that it is natural versus man made? Context? I.e. Location, local geology, native culture? what is the stone type that gamestones are made from? I'm trying to learn and have been lurking around here for a few years just reading and observing...
