Centralia, PA

I was there in 2005 on business and found the story of Centralia to be sad, but fascinating. To see the buckled roads and steam coming out of the ground is quite a sight. But looking at the streets all laid out in a grid and no houses is eerie! Anyway, since the land has been seized (federal or state?) is it fair game? I'm in Florida and won't be going back so I ask out of curiosity. I also think there would be a lot of debris in the ground when a house is razed that might make things difficult. So my Pennsylvania brethren, is it good hunting?

I know a group that went recently and basically nothing was found.

You might run a search here on Tnet... a number of members have hunted there.
It's basically an unhealthy place to be.

I always thought it would be a great place to go, most of the coins being pre-60's but from everyone who's detected there, there doesn't seem to be anything good recovered. Maybe the conditions of the toxic ground and burning coal affect the detectors?
