Hi everyone, I need help. I am commenting here because I have a copper chain cent amongst a ton of other coins my grandfather left me. I called a dealer today who was rude so I refuse to go to him. Can anyone recommend a dealer or appraiser in NYC area who I can go to to have all this stuff looked at? I didnt think it would be worth anything because of the condition but I see the other on here and mine is bright and shiny front is a worn off. I dont know anything about this stuff, hence the name lol.

Sorry to post this twice I cant find the other I posted.
I looked online so it seems these are the ones worth the most in the collection

the one with the chain is a fugio copper. The date would be 1787. :icon_thumright:

I dont have my coin book in front of me. But in the condition they are in I would say no. I know they made a lot of counterfit Fugio's, if yours is real and I have no reason to believe it isnt then that would the rarer one in the bunch.

:-\ well back to wishing I hit the lotto. thanks lol.

Sorry to disappoint. There a nice keep sake. :icon_thumright:

To find any Fugio Cent while out detecting my socks would be rolling up and down on their own for a year. It has value . . but you'll probably have to keep your current job. Here's some idea, but yours would grade below any of these listed: http://coinauctionshelp.com/1787fugio_cents.html

Would it be smarter to hold on to it? I have a bunch of other stuff alot of foreign. Should i post pics?
thank you for the feedback!

yes post pictures of all of them some one in here knows something about everything they are very well informed.

Will do! Running out now will get on this tonight. Thank you everyone for being so helpful! :icon_thumleft:

Also I have a bunch of wheat pennies and the guy I called today said "They arent worth crap maybe 2c each" but I see online they can be worth something?

These are worth a few dollars apiece, maybe more for the Fugio. The way to sell these is to take your pictures and auction them off in the large cents category (as a single lot, not individually) on eBay, with free shipping, and let the market decide what they are worth. I would not be surprised if the lot sells close to $20. You may get lucky and find out the Fugio is a rare variety, in which case it will sell for more. A coin dealer will not give you much for them because coins like this are difficult to sell. It is easy to find non-corroded examples at most coin shows for not too much money.

Looks like your grandpa might have owned a metal detector.
I was thinking the same thing, they do look dug don't they? :icon_scratch:

I am cataloging and taking pics of the other coins. I am sorry if some of these make you laugh that they arent worth anything I am just trying to figure it out. I feel more comfortable doing it this way than going into a dealer :) Thank you everyone for your help its very nice! Will upload shortly!

This is not even half of them but I am tired of doing this already lol!
