My second hammered ;D
A lovely Charles I silver Shilling, Tower Mint under Charles I, 1639 - 1640.
Obverse: profile bust left with mark of value 'XII' behind and legend CAROLVS D G MAG BRI FRA ET HIB REX with 'Triangle' mintmark.
Reverse: cross moline over shield of arms with legend CHRISTO AVSPICE REGNO and same mintmark.
Weighs 5.5grams 29mm Diameter
Well pleased - here are the pics:

Was this with the etrac & how deep?

Strange how often people start off a collection (in this case hammered) with some of the hardest to find. Your probably never get another Shilling in your life :o (lets how I wrong  ) Amazing!

Wow! I dream about pulling a coin that old out of the ground! CONGRATS!!! :icon_thumleft:

I think its Spinks 2010 no. 2796 or 2797 - F-£50, VF-£200

This is what its all about, I knew you would hit it eventually as you have done the time & worked hard. Still more to come :icon_thumright:

I'm voting BANNER on this one 8) 8)

PS. you should have posted something for scale as these are huge! (but you can't tell)

I see you've stepped up your game from a crusty Victoria penny, and a dug brooch. ;D So what will be next!

Yes, this is with the Etrac - the Lobo; sadly, is collecting dust in the spare room.
This was at about 10" or more I'd say - it wasn't a clear signal at first - but clearly indicated it was very deep and not Iron, it wasn't until it was in the pile of soil I'd dug out of the hole that it gave me a clear silver signal and sound - and wow! was that strong. Made my day.

sounds like you learning the in's & outs of the new machine, keep listening for them deeper sounds. If they are like the XP big coil then they are kinda iffy but you learn they are deep & not iron as you say :icon_thumright:

I hope I have as much luck tomorrow - The Derby group have organised a one-day dig up at Braithwell in Yorkshire - looking forward to it - got my lunch packed already

You are very fortunate to find dirty pennies made of silver.

Are the streets of London paved with gold?

I'm here for work at the moment, and I can assure you they are not. ;D

I've heard that they are but I live many miles away from London - half way between London and Scotland, here the streets are paved with cobble stones and cow manure! :D
