Check before digging

It was between (1839-1901), that thin rolled tin-plate was being mass-produced. Between 1890 and 1930 45 companies in the US were marketing it. Since pine tar has been used since the begining of time....i dont really know when the idea occurred to use them together. I do know that many homes here in the north were using these roofing methods in early 1900.

My friends and I have discovered after digging appox. 7ft down on side of hill this and are going to have a backhoe finish due to the depth. We dont know how long or whats there beneath the tar covered tin. Maybe an entrance or just an old well or outhouse.

Curiosity has besieged us and we will open it like Geraldo in Al Capone's vault. We will keep everyone informed.

I dont know how far away the hole you are digging is from the actual bank , but if its really close, look on the bank side for a depression that could be the door entrance. There isnt going to be a root cellar far from the original house either,so I ?am assuming there was a reason you started digging where you dug ?to begin with.
