Check this digger out!

Took mine out last weekend. Was showing my buddy how after all the digging I've done with it, it's still the same old beast it was when I got it. It'll still cut them fingers if you're not careful. I still swear by this thing. Rugged as hell.

I see you are in NH. If you ever get over to NY, Plattsburgh area, I can run the knife through an X-Ray machine and get you a nice, color picture of exactly what the tang looks like.

lol a bit pricey considering I'd snap it off the first day.
but it sure shines :laughing7:

hori hori ? should be Ferrari :tongue3:
I'd be a little nervous walking through the parks around here with that! Liable to get shot by the cops! Lemmee tell you it really sucks getting proned out in wet muddy grass (hazards of night hunting). Other than that looks well made! After you take it out & scuff it up let us know how it does!

I've been scuffing it up for well over a year now. Still haven't had to sharpen it. Still will cut a person - and roots. As it stands now, I'm sure I'll get many years of service out of it before it wears out. Barely even feels broken in. Well worth the 40 some odd dollars I paid for it.

Mine met an early demise yesterday. Was in dry packed ground and gave a heave, not any harder than I have a hundred times and it snapped about an inch and 1/4 below the handle. I am thinking maybe it was not tempered properly ?

Ouch! That sucks. That's the 801 model with the higher grade steel that costs like forty-something dollars, right?

Yours looks pretty banged up. This is mine in its current state. Yours says "DSR1K6 STAINLESS STEEL" on the back of the blade, right? Just trying to make sure they sold you the right one.20180826_133126.webp20180826_133101.webp

Thanks for the heads-up, FWest. Guess I need to keep an eye on mine then. At the very least, carry me a backup out in the field. Could be a heat treat issue, like you said. After looking at yours, I'm surprised I haven't snapped mine yet. Here in New Hampshire, we have rocks, some bigger than a man's fist. I've pried them out of the ground often with this blade. Guess I need to go a little easier on it. Hope they will replace yours for free. That would be cool.

You are welcome. I checked the site and it does not look like they carry the same model. Will post with the results of their customer service.

So today I finally got a response from good oak, no warranty from them. Suggested I contact the manufacturer, I did that last Saturday. Also purchased a Fiskers hori hori with a lifetime warranty.

************EDIT UPDATE**********9/14/18 The manufacturer contacted me and offered a replacement, recommended the 800 over the 801 due to being slightly more flexible. Will see what happens.

Zero help from the seller or manufacturer both first said contact the other. Good oak replied to my second request and said 30 day warranty. Manufacturer never replied to me a second time. Was a nice tool but ultimately not worth the premium price IMHO.

I picked up the replacement today, brand new 800. Looks great. I have to say although it took some time to get the issue resolved I can not complain about the manufacturer, Nisaku. They shipped it air mail, packed well and included a catalog of the other products including a full tang model with a wood handle and an all metal version.

I am happy to have this tool again and will definitely look into it their other products after this positive experience.

Let us know how the 800 fares. And also, if there's much of a difference between the two different types of steels. Glad you got your issue resolved.
