man, I guess selling clad Ike's on ebay really is worth considering. 10 x face - not bad (for the seller I mean)

I wouldn't describe mine as silver though - unless it really was. I tried selling some 200 Ike's on craigslist before but I clearly desribed them as circulated clad (non-silver) Ike's and I couldn't sell them for even a very slight profit - about $.05 per coin.

If you look at his feedback, he sold 2-3 of these for a nice profit and was left good feedback. More power to him if people are dumb enough to give their money away.

The seller changed the title and/or description 9 times during the 1wk auction - including just hours before it closed (trying different bait lines).

It appears that the latest revision was to add the bs about not knowing the composition.

While it is true that we are taking advantage of the lack of knowledge of coin/metal value of the general population, I for one see it as a fundamental lack of integrity to purposely take advantage of the ignurant ([sic] is to circumvent the auto censor of the word that this "ignorant" happens to).

It is an entirely different act to buy something through a 3rd party that someone discarded because they didn't appreciate the value of than it is to knowingly sell something for over 10x actual value to someone who doesn't understand.

In this case, the buyer will put their XF clad Ike in their special, precious pieces shoe box and will proudly pass it on to their children or grand children. I guess if they get joy from that, it would possibly be worth a bit of a premium, but 10x is too much in my book.

I thought that 1971 to 1976 Ikes were 40% silver.(?)

Very true. All 40% Ikes will have an "S" mintmark. They were minted NIFC.

Not all Ikes with an "S" mintmark are 40% though. There were some proof clads minted in SanFran - many millions of them in fact. The good news is though only PROOF clads were minted in SanFran. So, if it has an "S" and is not a PROOF, then it is 40% Ag. Does that make your head spin or what? Why is it so hard to keep all of this straight? We just want to know if Silver dollars have any Silver in them. Most do not.
