I just recently picked up this box, and it turns out it is sterling. I am need of any info on this kanji mark...:dontknow: image-259345707.webpimage-571965815.webp

I have a 22" screen. I enlarged it to 400% and still couldn't read the mark. Need a better (close-up) photo. Try using a magnifying glass in front of the camera if you don't have a macro setting.

Could be a silver cigarette case. What are its dimensions?

I'll give that a shot "Dig" thx,..I'll post post a better pic with Digs idea in a bit, and L&F the dimension are. 4 3/4" x 3 3/4" x 1 3/4"...

I wonder if it's a opium box

Dig until your arm falls off

Alright here is the best close up I could do with my magnifying glass

Sterling you might want to post your photos on this site. The first photo and the one with the readable kanji mark should be fine.

I've used it before and there are some very knowledgable contributors on it.

It's a cigarette or card box, made for export. I can't find that mark off hand but I would think it dates to the late 1800's/early 1900's. It would be termed "Chinese export silver". The mark, if identified would more than likely help put a date on it. It's a popular design with the repousse dragon coming out of the sea, nice water motifs on the sides. Not as detailed and elaborate as some but it looks like a quality piece. I like it.

I thought it was a export also from china...from around the 1920s...Thx guys for the help.....I'm hoping too sell this to a friend .

That's a heck of a find. I found a little silver card dish made in china. It was around 2-1/2" x 3" and I paid $3.00 for it. It sold to a buyer in Hong Kong for over $80.00. I also found some silver tongs made in China for like $2.00 and they got a little over $50.00 Silver pieces from China are hot sellers. Can't help on the marks as I found not so many are listed. I have some silver spoons with Chinese marks on all and they are solid silver and most likely melted coin silver, but I can only find the marks are Chinese and that's it. Your box is worth some bucks is all I can say??
