Hello all!!
Michigan warmed a bit this weekend. It almost hit 40 degrees today so I had to get out. Mostly because of reading everyone's posts here as I have never hunted in these type of conditions. Well, I am glad I did. I hit a couple schoolyards that I missed this summer because they had just put down fresh woodchips that day. The woodchips were mostly frozen to about 3 inches down, expecially at the first school but by the end of my hunt at the second school, they were softening up and beginning to thaw. I stayed comforable, dressed well, and the wind was fairly light, so all in all it was a great day. Judging by my finds, it was a really great day!
At the first school, I didn't find a whole lot, kind of sparse and the "digging" was brutal, or should I say chopping. I did manage a super tiny silver, 925 ring. It's pretty cool, must be a young kids pinky ring or maybe a necklace ring. The second school was a lot better. I did feel confident today, always thinking positive that the next dig will be a nice gold ring or, chain, or pendant. Well, it happened. About a half hour into the second school I dug a beautiful 10kt gold ring. It's an "I Love You" ring with five heart shaped Garnet gemstones. I let out a loud "woohoo!!" when I saw it pop out of the chips and I am glad I didn't chop through or into it with my digging knife. I think it is maybe my second best ring this year. It's beautiful!!
It was about two inches from the very edge, border of the woodchip area. I can't stress enough to always search all the way up to edges of the woodchip areas as a lot of TH'ers only search around the play structures. I would say that about 15 or 20 percent of my keeper finds this year were made far away from the play structures near the timbers or plastic borders that hold in the woodchips.

I also dug a nice sterling bracelet at the second place. My trinket finds included 3 rings, a cheep charm bracelet, a chain and lovers pendant, and like 5 other fobs/pendants. I hunted about 4-1/2 hours and got $6.60 in clad 81 coins.
I did have an unfortunate incident today at the second school. There was 4 boys, ages like 10 to 13, playing on one of the structures around the back of the school. As I got closer to them, working my way all the way around the school, hitting all the woodchipped areas, one asked me if aI found anything. I gave the standard answer and continued searching. I skipped the play area they were at and went by them to another play stucture and swing set. As I was searching , all of sudden they ambushed me and started throwing snowballs at me from every direction. There was still snow on the far south end of the property as a treeline blocks the sun from melting it. Man, I was pissed. They pelted me for about 2 or three minutes and then went over to get more snowballs. So I got the hell out of there and went home. I was tired anyway, and I had my gold. I wanted to kick their little butts, but it isn't worth going to jail for, so I sucked up my pride and got out of there. Bummer huh.
I feel very fortunate to have gotten out today and really happy with all my great finds. The past several times out, I have really been getting lucky, finding a piece of gold I think my last 9 trips out. Lots of sterling too. What a year! Thanks to you all for all of the inspiration and knowledge I have gooten here at TNet.
Happy holidays to you all and good luck in all your searches. Thanks for reading! Here's some more photos of my finds today.
