IMO... Not from a sabre / sword...

From an officers saddle... and a STELLAR find btw... IF that is what it is... Banner find.

IF there are 2 holes on either side... then Saddle... I cannot tell by the photo... is why I say IF it is one.

Civil War Officers Saddle to be exact...

49er12, are/were there any holes? If so, I second AARC's banner vote. What you found is a once in a lifetime find. It would be even better if the place where you found it was once the residence of a C.W. officer.

49er12, just voted banner. To help strengthen the case with more context, please give as many details as possible as to where found etc. Although a long shot, I'd like to research possible original owners of your find and if anything promising shows up - post it here.

I believe the man was either an officer or brigadier General in the war could be wrong but my research is showing such in pa, Virginia died young, revolutionary war or war of 1812 still searching
