The Nelson County soldiers fought under great difficulties. At first, they had great trouble in securing arms. Finally, there were guns of almost every kind known to the troops of the United States. Sickness was caused by want of knowledge and skill in the preparation of diet. Above, a Civil War cannon stands vigil at Cumberland Gap, near Middlesboro.

Some of those old photos kinda take you back in time. Nice.
 

I made trip to a Jonesville, Va via through Tenn several years ago an went through the game. Found a cannon at the top of a mountain that had to be very difficult to get up. It too was in the gap. This is similar to my memory. I can not imagine the effort it took to get up that incline.
 

I have hunted the Gap a lot it's good hunting if you can find people that will do it there a lot there right down town you just have ask good hunting
