Please refer to the previous post. It rained 3" this morning. That was ALMOST enough to get some moisture in the ground, so I headed back out to yesterday's site. Yes, I got there just as the rain ended. I have found some Confederate items in the park, so decided to just wander around within 100 yards or so of the Confederate block "I" button find of yesterday. Just got pulltabs, aluminum foil and could hear a lot of iron chatter under the loop of the Deus. Went into an area no more than 50' from where I found the Confederate button, and got a screaming 89 on the Deus. Dug down maybe 6 inches and out popped the most amazing non military ca 1860 button I have ever found. There was tall grass there last spring, and I frankly didn't do very well then. This button is intact. Standard Civil War period 3 piece button (2 pieces and the shank. Motif is a swan or peacock with it's head down on the bottom and looking right, with the feathers out behind it! I was in shock.
It has a backmark, but the back is toast. But look at all that gold on the front. I then had to take a rest, moved a little farther down the hill and found a horseshoe and this Civil War period brass underwear button. 
Kind of went in circles for awhile and pulled out more pulltabs and clad.
Now, after what was left of Nate went through it was humid and 83 degrees, not conducive to detecting. Started going in circles again, and SHOCKER! Found this here ring! 
I did the quiet happy dance. Saw an inscription in it, holding out hope for a 14k ring. When I got back to the car ALAS! It's marked stainless steel. But it's still a nice find. Three rings in four days of detecting, even if two are junk, still isn't too bad.
Then these came up, costume jewelry, but whatever.
Started heading back to the car and found a big brass whatzit, old green patina, I left it in the truck, so that will for another day.
One of the last signals of the was a choice flattened Budweiser can in all blue. As I was hot, tired, without gold, or silver, I started passing by some signals but found one that sounded somewhat like a quarter.
It was not a quarter. Here it is.
War of 1812 Artillery button. Same patina as the long brass whatzit which is in the truck. Soil conditions on the property vary greatly depending on whether the items are on the high ground or low ground. If memory serves, this is only my third War of 1812 military button I ever dug.
Moral of the story: go detect something! Three thrillers in one 3 hour dig!
