I could be wrong ...but I think the closest activity to you was Canada. I read about it in Shelby Foote's? books The Civil War. The Union had set up area's to stop the British if they were to try to interfere. Research any ports and waterways.....thats all I have , hope it helped in some way.

How about checking out the reruiting camps.........where they had to report for duty in MN.....Paymaster would be CLOSE !
