Civil War era 'US' belt buckle

Had a good day detecting in an area where there used to be a town in the 1800's and now it is just some fields and woods with a few stone walls and stairs.
I got a good signal on my E-Trac. I dug down about 11" and found, what I thought, was a 'bullet' but turned out to a piece of iron. It was shaped just like a bullet. I put my Pro Pointer back in the hole and it went crazy again. I cleared some dirt out and found a Civil War era 'US' belt buckle!
I still have to clean it up, which should be tough, because the soil around here is VERY bad and eats coins and metal very very fast. It also leaves heavy residue on items, as you can see in the picture.
I also found the 2 spoons in the same area, which was intersting. I also found a 22 caliber shell, some metal 'whisk-looking-thing'(as in the picture), about $2.00 in clad, and 2 wheat pennies.

My scoop brought you good luck! Congrats on that beautiful find. I hope to find one someday.

Great score on that beauty

Don't clean that too harshly. Patina IS desirable on civil war finds. If you take it down to bare brass, it will have little value or eye appeal. That is a FIRST RATE find.

Cheers,

Buckles

Congrats on the US Plate, I bet you were surprised to see that! The spoons are also Civil War period.
