Civil War Hothkiss Shell fully intact Rare larger size

Dug my first Hotchkiss shell at my Civil War battle site in Virginia and its a good one. Apparently it's a pretty rare size as most are 3 inches this one is 4.5 inch and quite heavy and fully complete lead sabot and all. Its pretty imposing!! Bringing it in for disarm and electrolysis should come really nice.

Nice recovery! I'm no expert, but it looks like the fuse is missing? If so, the disarm should be a lot easier.

Great find. I have the fuse for a Hotchkiss 65 lb Union Naval Shell if that helps to see it.

You should knock that rust off with a hammer, first, then it will clean up easier! Not really!
