Went back to a camp that I have not been to in a few years in Central Virginia and had an insane dig!! One of my top 5 bucket listers came thru well not fully! Dug this CW ID badge that does not have any engravings but looks as though it did at one time but was scratched off possibly to re engrave ? Or perhaps was purchased and was never engraved but such a cool find, hoping there is another engraved one there! This site also produced my first Georgia button and very nice 1812 officer button along with the trigger guard and scabbard.

That badge may be a generic 9th Corps insignia, or it could be a harness accoutrement. Either way it is odd not to have any attachments ... or a hole if it was an id badge.

It looks to me like there may be signs of a T-bar attachment on the backside that was soldered on and eventually popped off.
