Civil war lead pencil?

I found this a few weeks ago. Not sure but it's approximately same size as #2 lead pencil. Fairly square at larger end but tapers round to small end, then ends with a small hole, like maybe to run a string on some sort . Any ideas?

All I can tell you is that it's lead and was found on a pre civil war plantation that burned down in the 1960s.
