Found this heart shaped boot heal plate. Measures 2 inches by 2 inches. Heard this could be either CW or lady's brothel type heal plate. Found at old house site that also had CW activity. Thoughts?
I've heard both of the sides of this argument. Some people say heel plate of the oldest profession... others say just a civil war era civilian heel plate. I lean toward the latter part of the argument because I've seen others with different designs. I even found a piece of one with a club (card suit) on it. So maybe they had all of the playing card suits. I'm not an expert though. Just my opinion.
I've found a heart and also this one. I don't believe these were hooker heel plates....though it is an interesting story. These ladies liked to work at night and you'd never see those prints in the dark lol. And I don't believe many brothels were up here in Maine
We find those all over New England - around old homes and in farm fields - ours are period but definitely not CW and doubt very much they are from ladies of the evening ---they are civilian
down south - did some guys have boots made with them - sure - did some woman of the oldest profession wear them
probably - that was the design thing for a period
- I have found hearts - clover and spade ones and have seen a few diamonds - it was the designs of the times
