So my mama...yes...my mama...she loves the hobby just as much as me...dug this last Sunday at a known Confederate site in Halifax County NC. The problem is we've dug Revolutionary War items here...Civil War items here...and now this. Some are saying WWI others say it's Confederate. Looking up K Company during the Civil War I ran across the 5th NC Infantry. They were actually formed in Halifax County NC.

Thanks guys. I had found this same information but the other day I was looking through the book Relic Quest and they had the same pin only with a letter D. The description said it was a rare officers pin from the Civil War. So much confusion lol.

Yes, I can see where that would raise some false hopes, but alas they are wrong. To remove any doubt, note in this page of the same helpful site that they are crossed 1903 Springfields, so not something available during the civil war: Evolution of U.S. Army Infantry Insignia

That's the same page I used to ID the find initially. A pretty interesting little area I hunt. Revolutionary War, Civil War, now WWI. Thanks for the help fellas.
