Looks like the handle from a shovel or pitchfork with the wood rotted away

I was thinking it might be for a commercial use mop.
 

It looks exactly like the handle of my digging shovel(a wood cylinder fits over the thin circular bar), which is quite old.

Spot on Relic Nut! I recently preserved one and I was scratching my head on its ID for a while, until a friend mentioned what he thought it was.
