Newark Housing Authority... (Newark, NJ)

("IF" it's an "N" and not an "M" or "W" depending on which pic you look at)

I don't have time to research it but maybe thats it... :-\ The number on the badge could be an inspector or employee number... ???

I think the key to identifying this is to identify that building pictured on it.Cool find.

It looks like an "M" to me, too. Please clarify, is it an "M" or an "N"? Inquiring minds want to know. LOL

newark delaware dates to the mid 1800s but in those days it was really small. i would be surprised if anyone would have made a token like that to commemorate anything in old newark de. ???

Maybe its some type of a service award pin....so the 29 would stand for 29 years of service....Like for a hospital or something

My guesses: The pin itself was made in Newark, NJ. The letters on the front are M.H.A. The numerals were stamped into the badge AFTER it was made, therefore they represent something changeable. Something like the years of service (as Gypsy suggested) or a number, for like a lodge number (as Leeway suggested) or a membership number (as Montana Jim suggested) or some other numbering system. But until we get some more info from the finder, we won't know for sure. LOL

Nice pin, whatever it represents!

Hi Arnold Ziffel and my other fellow TH'ers

I would suggest a bit more cleaning so you can read the backside information better. Try microwaving a cup with a 1/4" of Hydrogen Peroxide (HP); heat the HP until it begins to bubble and then dip the token into the liquid. It will clean up enough to be able to clearly read, just don't let in lie in the HP for very long, I would give it a five to ten second dip and see how well it cleans up. I use this on some of my Indian Head Cents to get them to look like real coins again. I hope this will assist you.
Thanks
