Civil War site finds.

I found this stuff at a civil war site. I know the shotgun shells wasn't from the civil war, but don't know about this tag.

Just guessing without a size reference but it looks like either a tool tag or livestock tag
 

Livestock tag....i have found a few.

Sure, why not. Looks the same.
 

That's the thing about those tags. They are all pretty generic and can be used for a multitude of things. When I worked in commercial construction, we used them on one job to identify valves we installed in domestic water and even steam valves. The owners would receive a set of blueprints with valves numbered with corresponding brass tags to identify their use.
