My wife was cleaning out a cedar chest yesterday and found these CW stamps she bought in 1995. The back says they expire in 1997. .32 cents

Nice save !
That sheet of stamps is cataloged as Scott's No. 2975. ('Civil War-pane of 20')
A few years ago it had a retail value of $40.
Don.......

Hey, didn't expect that. We're not collectors but a long shot but the X postmaster use to display and push the current stamps for each month and my wife knew I liked that period of history. Thanks for the reply.:icon_thumright:

I really like those , I saw some from that year not long ago at 'a store ' ?.

I got a sheet or 2 of the latest Civil War issues , if memory serves 1861-2011; 1862 -2012 , but did not get the 2013 -2014 or 2015 if there was an issue that year.

If the later 1864 Series had Sherman' s Ga , campaign , I'd love to get some of those but really want them all. (Civil War types).
In 97 or 98 I bought a Sheet or Block of Senora Desert types , still have those surprised I did not see the CW Series (it was a small PO tho).

Another thing "They expire" ? That don't make sense to me.
Mackadon explain this if you can please thanks.
Davers

The 32 cent stamp became the required value for first class mail on Jan. 1, 1995.
The 33 cent stamp became the required value for first class mail on Jan. 10, 1999.
Stamps don't 'expire' though they become insufficient postage if not of the required value.
Can you post a pic of the back where 'expire' is written?
Don....

hold onto it ya never know really cool find
