Interesting. Someone else on this forum mentioned that they had done research to confirm that only paper money was stolen from the bank, no silver or gold. Only about half of what they stole was recovered, so there is probably a burlap sack of paper money rotting away in a shallow grave in a field somewhere...

A rock overlooking a field of trees? Could be dozens of places between St. Albans and the border. Still, reminds me of one of the back nine holes at Champlain Country Club off of Route 7.
 
$223,000 stolen and only $80,000 found. Hard to believe it would have all been in paper in those years...in fact you think they would have been looking for currency of use to the confederacy (i.e. gold and silver.)
