Possibly VMI (Virginia Military Institute). The West Point of the Confederacy.

Though the collar isn't quite right. Likely LOTS of other academies copied VMI.

I can't get the page to copy (not computer literate), but it also looks like some of the very old West Point cadet uniforms. Either way, it does go back in time quite a bit.

North Carolina had several military academies at the time of the war. The uniforms were basicly the same style. You might find more info on Grandpa at the library. Tony
