I went back to campus to continue working on the ball field. I found an old 2 piece cuff button without a shank. I was hoping it was military, but alas it was a plain one and there is no backmark of any kind. The coins were few an far between so after 3 hours I moved to another field and did a little better on coins and managed to find another class ring.

All in all 30 coins with a face value of $1.85, a modern 2 piece button with a ferrous metal back mostly rusted away, the old 2 piece button, the class ring and a small D buckle.

The class ring is a 1978 from a local school. It is a John Roberts Siladium ring. Siladium is a stainless steel alloy. I found the school yearbook on line and looked for the owner. Unfortunately the yearbook does not list middle initials and and there are 3 men with the same first and last initials. I am looking in the phone book and will make a few calls and see if I can get lucky. I can try the school to narrow it down, but sometimes they refuse to give out information sometimes these days. Wish me luck on the return and I will keep you posted.

Thanks for looking and may your coil lead you to good things.

P.S. This hunt was before the capped bust silver, but I just had to post that beautiful coin first.

No need to wish you luck! You're a lucky one for sure. However, I do hope you're able to find the owner and make the return. That, in turn will bring you more good luck!

Great find and I hope you find the owner! That is the way to do things.

My best class ring return was a 1956 high school class ring that I found in January 2016. It was lost in January 1958, 6 months before I was born. The school closed in 1972 and there were only 17 graduates in his class. I found it in the owners 1st cousins front yard and he was still alive. He wanted to pay me but I told him the look on his face was worth more than any money. He actually cried when I returned it. He had given it to his wife when he was cutting wood 3 miles away and thought she had lost it there.

Congrats on the ring recovery! Good Luck on the return. :occasion14:
