HI, one last itty bitty word. Clay projectiles were used for small game hunting with sling shots and also with certain air guns. The resason was that they were much more accurate than any odd pebble that you might find.

Even today you can find them in lead for our modern slingshot affic.

Naturally it would be a simple step to adapt them for canon grapeshot .

They're not new to warfare. Didn't they mix thorns into clay balls? Turned them into caltrops against the Roman Legions and others.
